Remedi SeniorCare® Opens Ohio’s Most Technologically-Advanced Pharmacy

State-of-the-Art Medication Dispensing System Will Support Residents in Region’s Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Homes

BALTIMORE, November 13, 2012 — Remedi SeniorCare®, one of the country’s leading long- term care (LTC) pharmacies, has officially opened the doors of its newest state-of-the-art facility in Troy, Ohio. To reinforce its recent and ongoing growth, the company’s new pharmacy is centered on Remedi’s revolutionary med-pass system Paxit®, a fully-automated robotic dispensing technology that can support long-term care residents throughout the Buckeye State. Remedi’s Ohio pharmacy opening is the second of three new state-of-the-art pharmacies Remedi has slated to open this year; the first was in Virginia and the next will be in Pennsylvania.

Remedi’s Paxit Med-Pass Solution is the industry’s only fully automated medication dispensing system, delivering resident-specific 24-hour unit-dose medication with unsurpassed accuracy, reducing drug costs by 15 percent or more and increasing med-pass efficiency by 30 percent or more. Paxit reduces inventory levels to just two days, eliminating the waste often associated with 30-day “bingo cards”, and exceeds the requirement of the Affordable Care Act.

“Senior care continues to grow in the region as the number of Ohioans age 85 and older is expected to reach 322,497 by 2030—an 82 percent increase from 2000,” said Remedi SeniorCare Chairman and CEO Michael Bronfein.

“For more than five years the Ohio Department of Aging has worked with stakeholders, including nursing homes, area agencies on aging, service providers and consumer advocates to create a unified long-term care system. Remedi is well poised and in sync with the Ohio Department of Aging’s vision to be on the leading edge of innovation and responsiveness to Ohio’s growing and changing older population. We believe our customer-inspired technology will make a big difference for Ohio’s long-term care residents by increasing medication safety and accuracy.”

Paxit is the first and only medication dispensing system designed by nurses with resident safety, nursing efficiency and cost reduction as their primary objectives. Nurse involvement at every stage of the development of Paxit resulted in a user-friendly design and smooth process flow:

  • Easy tear-open bags and individually wrapped blisters with rounded corners to protect fingers; no co-mingling of pills; the ability to separate resident name from medication information on the bag
  • Easy-to-read bags with large print for identifying the most important information; alphabetical order of medications listed in the same order as the Medication Administration Record (MAR); complete administration information including date, dispensing time, room number and both brand and generic drug names
  • Simplified med pass process, reducing an average medication administration time by 30 minutes and eliminating the time associated with returns and refill processing; allowing more time to devote to resident-centered care.
